Using the Tool panel

The tool panel allows you to interact with the map. The tool panel is designed to provide a complete set of tools to perform a given task.

You can also interact with the map using the keyboard. Also see Using the mouse for tips on using the mouse to interact with the map.

Note: Some tools do an action immediately. These include the Re-center tool and the Re-align tool. tool.

Tools

Tools in your website depend on the purpose and use of the application. Some or all of these may be available:

Navigation panel:
Name Icon Description
Zoom in Fixed zoom in Click and drag a rectangle: Click and hold the left mouse button down on the map at one corner of the rectangle to zoom in to. Drag the mouse to the other corner of the rectangle, and release the mouse button. The map will zoom in to the area of the rectangle.
Zoom out Fixed zoom in Click and drag a rectangle: The map will zoom out so that the current map area will fit into the rectangle drawn. The smaller the rectangle you draw, the more the map will zoom out.
Zoom Slider Zoom in tool Use the Slider bar to zoom in on the center of the map.
Pan (recenter) Pan tool Click and drag the map: Click and hold the left mouse button on the map, and drag the map. The map will be recentered, with the location dragged at the location you dropped it.

Full extent Recenter map element Full extent: Immediately zooms the map out to the area of all features and layers. The active tool does not change.
Re-align Re-align tool Click to re-align: If the map has been rotated click to re-align the map. Clicking will re-orientate the map so North is at the top of the map.
Rotate Rotate tool Rotate map: Clicking and rotating the navigation compass will rotate the map.

Routing panel:
Name Icon Description
Route Types Route type Select one: Select the route type desired: Shortest drive time, shortest distance, or bicycle. Drive time is the default.
Location Types Location types Select one: Select the location type desired: Stop or barrier. Stop is the default.
Search Search Enter a location to Search for, and click Search. The search engine will find addresses or intersections.
Get Route Get route button Click: Click button to generate a route based on selected route type and placed locations.
Optimized Optimized tool Check: If checked the routing engine will reorder all middle points for the most efficent route.
Reset Reset button Click: When clicked all routing tools reset. Results are removed, and any locations (Stops or user defined barriers) are removed.
